Understanding and Functioning of RAM

The function of RAM is to speed up the processing of data on a PC or computer. The bigger the RAM you have the faster the computer. RAM can speed up the performance of the computer, because RAM provides temporary storage space for the computer. In storing data that is easily retrieved so that it can speed up loading data as well as programs accessed.

The physical form of RAM on a PC is like an electronic circuit like a chip. To install RAM to PC is by inserting into the RAM slot on the motherboard, The type of RAM slot also vary depending on the type of RAM.

A. Types of RAM (Random Access Memory)

The following types of RAM, including:

-RAM (Dynamic RAM) is a type of RAM that must periodically be refreshed by the CPU (Central Processing Unit) so that the data contained within it does not disappear.

-SDRAM stands for "Sychronous Dynamic Random Access Memory" type of RAM which is a continuation of DRAM but has been synchronized by system clock and has a higher speed compared to DRAM.

-DDR RAM is short for "Double Rate Random Access Memory". DDR RAM is often referred to as DDR only. This type of memory is a continuous technology / continuation of SDRAM. There is also a continuation of DDR2 (Double Data Rate Generation 2 RAM) and also DDR3 (Double Data Rate Generation 3 RAM), maybe more here will be a new generation.

-RDRAM is short for "Rambus Dynamic Access Memory" a type of memory that is faster and also more expensive than SDRAM. This memory can be used on systems that use Pentium 4 (four)

-SRAM is also known as "Static Random Access Memory" type of memory that does not require refresh by the CPU so that the data contained in it remains well stored. RAM of this type has a higher speed in comparison with DRAM and SDRAM.

-EDORAM is derived from the abbreviation "Extended Data Out Random Access Memory", which is the type of memory used on systems that have used pentium. This type can store and retrieve the contents of memory simultaneously, so the speed of reading and writing to be somewhat faster.
